Precise control and reliable protection of generators
The ETW digital excitation and voltage control systems are designed for medium- and high-power generators. Based on state-of-the-art microprocessor voltage regulators, they ensure stable operation of generating units, providing precise parameter control and comprehensive protection.
Application
ETW systems are used in power plants, combined heat and power plants, and wherever reliable and accurate generator voltage regulation is required. They are suitable for both traditional industrial installations and modern power systems requiring automation and remote communication.
Design and functionality
The ETW systems are available in two versions:
- ETW SCB – static excitation systems powered from the generator terminals (shunt supply),
- ETW CB – brushless excitation systems with excitation generators, equipped with automatic voltage regulators based on IGBT technology.
The microprocessor-based voltage regulator provides:
- maintenance of set values for voltage, reactive power, or power factor (cosφ),
- automatic switchover to backup control in case of disturbances,
- communication via RS-232 and RS-485 (Modbus™) interfaces,
- integration with supervisory systems and PC-based tools for monitoring and configuration.
Protection functions
The ETW systems include a comprehensive set of protection functions, including:
- rotor overcurrent and overvoltage protection,
- generator overcurrent and overvoltage protection,
- rotor overtemperature protection,
- maximum and minimum excitation limiters,
- watchdog timer for processor supervision,
- tracking circuit enabling smooth, disturbance-free transition between automatic and manual modes.
Additional features
Event and disturbance recorder – records up to 127 events and analogue waveforms, enabling detailed analysis of generator operation.
Decoupling circuit – equipped with overvoltage protection to safeguard the rectifier and rotor.
Initial excitation circuit – enables safe and controlled generator start-up.
PC software – intuitive Windows®-based application for configuration, monitoring and diagnostics.
