The topic of standardisation of frequency measurement methods in power systems is gaining increasing importance and is an important area of development work. A paper presented at the XXIV SPIE Energotest Conference highlights the need to develop a trade-off between estimation accuracy, response speed and noise immunity in algorithms used in SEEs.

The paper also outlines the limitations of current network codes and identifies the need for:
- further defining the requirements for protection automation devices (EAZ),
- disaggregate technical parameters for frequency functions,
- implement consistent test and examination methods.
