SPIE Energotest Academy - ArcPRO-6 arc protection protection zones

We invite you to our new series "SPIE Energotest Academy", in which we will introduce you to various aspects of power automation in an accessible way.

In today's material, we will focus on the zones of operation of ArcPRO-6 arc protection.

The ArcPRO-6 fibre-optic arc protection device manufactured by @SPIE Energotest enables selective protection of MV switchgear fields, including double-system switchgear. Thanks to the use of a distributed structure, including central units, voltage and current measurement units and field units with the possibility of connecting 4 or 6 light detectors, it is possible to protect practically any type of switchgear.

The example presented here shows the protection of a two-system switchgear with the following operating zones:

• S1A - the outage zone within the entire A system (red),
• S1B - outage zone within the entire B system (green colour),
• S1AB - outage zone of the entire A or B system, depending, which system is currently supplying the field (violet colour),
• S2AB - selective outage zone, regardless of the power source (system A or B) (yellow colour),
• S3 - MV side of the transformer tripping zone, requiring pulsing of the HV side breaker (grey colour).
